The sound of snowguns is ringing in the Laurel Highlands as the snowmaking team at Seven Springs Mountain Resort begins to cover the slopes with snow for the 2017-2018 winter season!

With the goal of continuously enhancing the guest experience, the resort closely examines operations each year to identify where improvements can be made. This year, Seven Springs has made great strides across the resort, from major snowmaking upgrades to major renovations within the Main Lodge and Hotel.

Snowmaking Improvements

66 HKD Impulse R5 tower snowguns and 6 HKD Viper R5 portable snowguns have been added to Wagner and Gunnar slopes, which use a reduced amount of compressed air and allow the snowmaking team to tailor output to adapt the system to varying weather conditions.

The snowmaking stations on Gunnar Slope, Yodeler Trail and Lost Girl Trail were converted to a high-pressure system. The increased water pressure will significantly increase performance, generating more snow of better quality.

A 900-foot string of nine snowmaking towers has been added to expand the size of North Park, which has been redesigned into a boardercross-style freestyle area, full of small and medium features, bank turns and transition.

New Rental Equipment

The Seven Springs Rental Center will offer a brand new fleet of Rossignol children’s skis and boots and Burton snowboards and boots this winter.

Night Ticket

A 4-9 p.m. night session is available this year, Sundays-Thursdays, excluding holidays.

New Snowsports School Director

Jamie Forys will lead the Seven Springs Snowsports School for the 2017-2018 season. A skier for 38 years and a snowboarder for 23 years, Forys is a certified Level 2 AASI instructor and a Level 1 USSA Coach and has taught skiing and snowboarding for 20 years.

“There is nothing better than knowing you have something fun to do when it is snowing!” said Forys. “I hope to bring the customers and new staff into our community and to foster those types of connections for everyone as we go forward in future seasons.”

In her free time, Forys enjoys snowshoeing, cross country skiing and all things outdoors. Her positive and personable approach to leadership will bring new energy to the Snowsports School team.

Off-Mountain Renovations

The Seven Springs hotel’s 414 rooms have each undergone a renovation with

  • 100 rooms and suites have received completely remodeled bathrooms, new carpeting, new paint, new furnishings and upgraded bedding and amenities.
  • All other rooms are receiving new carpet, new paint and upgraded furnishings, bedding and amenities.

The Center Lobby and Bavarian Lounge are being completely renovated with updated flooring, finishes, accents and furnishings.

Bass Rock Cottage, a three bedroom, four bathroom cottage located adjacent to the resort has been completely renovated and is now available for reservations. The cottage sleeps eight and offers luxurious yet rustic accommodations with a private fishing pond and breathtaking views.

Snowmaking: New Pumphouse

The snowmaking pumphouse at Hidden Valley has been completely overhauled to allow for greater capacity and improved snowmaking on the slopes:

  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) were added, which will allow the snowmaking team to better control the output of the pumps, saving electricity and improving adaptability to conditions.
  • Maximum output has been increased from 3,700 GPM to 4,700 GPM, allowing for up to 12 additional snowguns to be operated at a time.
