Ohiopyle to Confluence | 12 miles | Intermediate

This is the most popular stretch of Youghiogheny trail in Pennsylvania. Chase the trains loaded with coal headed to Washington, D.C., and race the rafters as they drift down the river.

  • - Check out the interpretive signs along the trail and be sure to wave at the rafters as they float downstream.

Drop-Off: Ohiopyle Train Station

  • - Ohiopyle was once called “Falls City.”
  • - It has the deepest river gorge in Pennsylvania: 26 miles long and 2,000 ft deep.

Pick-up: Confluence, PA

  • - Named for convergence of three rivers, the Youghiogheny, the Casselman and Laurel Hill Creek.
  • - The Audubon Society named Confluence one of Pennsylvania’s most valuable bird habitats.

Meyersdale to Rockwood | 12 miles | Intermediate

This stretch of the Great Allegheny Passage offers the most dramatic transition from Pennsylvania river gorge to equally lovely Pennsylvania farm country.

Drop-Off: Meyersdale, PA

  • - The Maple City, home of more than 60 years of Maple Festivals in the fall.
  • - Take a minute on the Salisbury Viaduct, a 1,900 ft long bridge that is over 100 ft above the valley to soak in one of the grandest views on the Great Allegheny Passage.

Pick-Up: Rockwood, PA

  • - One of the fastest growing towns in Pennsylvania because of the Civil War boom and an ample supply of railroad tracks.
