Seven Springs Mountain Resort hosted its 17th Annual Wine & Food Festival, August 15 and 16, 2009. The hot summer sun, bright blue skies and the beautiful backdrop of the Laurel Highlands welcomed guests ranging from wine aficionados to rookie wine fans.
Guests who reserved the two-night festival lodging package enjoyed a relaxing manager's reception complete with chocolate goodies, wine samples, live entertainment from an acoustic duo and a beautiful art show with submissions from local artists.
Twenty-five Pennsylvania wineries brought some of their finest, most popular wines along with some new vintages for festival attendees to sample and purchase. Meanwhile, in the air conditioned Timberstone room, attendees were welcome to participate in seminars hosted by Giant Eagle, Winery and Wilcox, Adams County Winery, Allegro Vineyards and Blue Mountain Vineyards. Topics included Wine & Cheese: A dynamic duo; The Essentials of Wine Tasting; and The Implication of Sulfites in Wine.
Some of the festival's biggest hits were the men in kilts from Adams County Vinery, Sand Castle Vineyard's Alpine Spice, which can be served chilled or piping hot for some - perfect after a day of skiing at Seven Springs, and the ice wines from Winery at Wilcox. Oh and even some Pittsburgh's favorite news celebrities made it out of the Steel City to partake in the events. Andrew Stockey and Erin Kienzle of WTAE were spotted enjoying the summer sun and some sweet samplings.
While the wine tour progressed, bands No Bad Ju Ju and Soul Village performed some great tunes. At one point, No Bad Ju Ju's rendition of Michael Jackson's Thriller led to an impromptu group dance performance!
Next year's festival is scheduled for August 28 and 29, 2010, and tickets will go on sale some time that spring.
You REALLY Should Have Been Here!
